Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that Apple is not planning to release a new Mac Studio model with the “M2 Ultra” processor anytime soon.
Gurman said in the most recent issue of his “Power On” newsletter that because the future Apple silicon Mac Pro is “very similar in functionality to the Mac Studio,” Apple may postpone updating the machine until the introduction of M3Â or M4 series chips, or just never upgrade the computer at all:
I wouldn’t anticipate the introduction of a Mac Studio in the near future. The upcoming Mac Pro is very similar in functionality to the Mac Studio — and adds the M2 Ultra chip rather than the M1 Ultra. So it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to offer an M2 Ultra Mac Studio and M2 Ultra Mac Pro at the same time.
It’s more likely that Apple either never updates the Mac Studio or holds off until the M3 or M4 generation. At that point, the company may be able to better differentiate the Mac Studio from the Mac Pro

The current comments Gurman made are the clearest proof yet that a new version of the machine is unlikely to be released anytime soon. Little has been said about the next-generation Mac Studio up to this point.
The “M2 Extreme” chip was apparently dropped from the first Apple silicon Mac Pro, and instead, the 2019 model’s design and non-user-upgradable RAM were used. This information came to light last month. It is currently anticipated that the gadget will only provide the M2 Ultra, a processor that should have logically been included in the next Mac Studio.
Apple’s decision to delay upgrading the Mac Studio’s hardware until it can come up with a better plan for the machine’s placement going forward may make sense given the machine’s limited flexibility and comparable performance on the impending Mac Pro.
