Qualcomm will use its most current mobile platform, which was just launched, to power a number of midrange and even some flagship smartphones throughout the course of the next year. The newest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 powered phones are expected to debut as early as this month.

The Snapdragon X62 5G Modem and Wi-Fi 6E built into Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6900 chip enable mmWave and Sub6 5G connectivity, and Qualcomm is touting a long list of improvements to the 7+ Gen 2 chip, including improved CPU and GPU performance, better camera performance (especially for low-light photography and 4K HDR videos), and more.

Qualcomm claims that the 7+ Gen 2’s CPU speed bump represents an improvement of up to 50% and a 13% increase in total power efficiency, both of which should result in longer battery life. With relation to battery life, the 7+ Gen 2 features Quick Charge 5, which allows for a five-minute charge from 0% to 50%.

A first for this line of Qualcomm semiconductors, the 7+ Gen 2 platform now supports two active SIMs. Support for up to 120 frames per second on a QHD+ display, Qualcomm aptX gaming audio, and in-game chat are all benefits to gaming.

Moreover, Qualcomm disclosed some fresh AI upgrades for the 7+ Gen 2. The new CPU, according to the chip manufacturer, features a “supercharged” Qualcomm AI Engine that can handle tasks like upscaling video from 1080p to 4K and enhancing zoom while capturing films while maintaining sharpness.
