Capacitive solid-state keys for the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have been the subject of rumors for a while, and a recent post on the MacRumors boards provides more information about how they will function. The iPhone 15 Pro line is expected to feature a new customizable Action button and a combined power control from Apple.
The latter will support a variety of other programable functions, such as turning on and off the position lock, lighting, low power mode, and more, in addition to the standard iPhone silent switch functionality.
The iPhone 15 Pro series’ sensitive keys will have a specialized low-energy microcontroller that will allow them to function even when the battery is low. The device will provide Taptic Engine input and detect user taps and hold motions. Users will be able to adjust the button intensity in Settings, and they will be able to use mittens and phone covers.
The NFC, Bluetooth LE, and UW processors will continue to function even when the phone is turned off and when the battery is fully depleted thanks to the new low-energy chip found inside the iPhone 15 Pro series.
