According to the most recent leak, the Qualcomm forthcoming flagship Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 chipset easily outperforms the Apple M3 in terms of multi-core performance.
The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4’s clock speeds of 3.40GHz and 2.50GHz, which are higher than those of the previously tested model and may be the cause of the improved multi-core performance, were revealed in a long specs leak. According to the insider, Apple’s initial 3nm SoC, the M3, has a score of 11,000, making it much slower than Qualcomm’s solution.
However, the M3 outperforms the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 by an amazing 38% in the single-core test, suggesting that its performance cores may be superior than Qualcomm’s Oryon ones. If these figures are accurate, Apple has consistently outperformed the competition in single-core performance, thus nothing has changed.
Regarding the M3, it is reported to have an 8-core chip with four performance cores, much as the M2, hence it cannot compete with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 in terms of raw performance. However, it’s possible that Qualcomm makes use of TSMC’s N3E process to increase efficiency, which would also result in better power savings.
