Apple is getting ready to tweak and maybe expand the external screen options available to iPad and Mac users. A recent source claims that the company is working on “multiple new external displays” that include Apple Silicon, including an upgraded Pro Display XDR.
In the most recent publication of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple has “multiple new external monitors in development.” One of them would pair with the brand-new Mac Pro powered by Apple Silicon and be an updated version of the Pro Display XDR. Gurman does predict that the new Pro Display XDR won’t be released until after the new Mac Pro, though.
Apple is working on multiple new external monitors as well, including an update to the Pro Display XDR that was launched alongside the Intel Mac Pro in 2019. It is possible, however, that the company’s next high-end display will ship after the Mac Pro, as the computer is further along in development than the monitor.”

Additionally, each of these new external displays, according to Gurman, will use Apple Silicon chips, which will lessen the demand on the resources of the connected computer for the panels. However, this shouldn’t come as a surprise as the Studio Display has an alluring 64GB of internal storage and an A13 Bionic processor.
More information on Apple’s “many new external screens” is still awaited. Nevertheless, it’s intriguing to speculate about the roster.
