A slip of the tongue in a recent blog post by Google France may have leaked a crucial preorder date for Google’s new Pixel lineup. The blog post stated that the phones would be up for preorder on October 5th of this year. With the announcement of the phones only coming in a week ago, many believe this may be the actual preorder date. Despite this, Google has not commented on the leak.
The leak was picked up by 9to5 Google, after a person in France read the blog and noticed the preorder date was included. This was obviously a mistake on Google’s part, and most likely a result of poor communication between the two offices. The leak of the preorder date was removed from the blog and instead replaced with “coming this fall”.
Get Our Hopes Up?
It may be too soon to trust this leak 100%. Whilst the leak itself was a slip by Google, it does not mean that the preorder is what was written. This timeline was defined long before the COVID-19 pandemic, a situation that is causing tech companies around the world to scale back their production.
The leak does match previous releases of the Google Pixel line up. Every single Pixel phone since the Pixel 3 has been released in October, and there is no reason to believe their intention this year is any different. Google likes to deliver the world new tech in October, so the leak makes sense.
A Short Wait
The next generation of 5G phones just around the corner. The Pixel 5 5G and Pixel 4A 5G look to be fierce competitors for the mid-range smartphone. With only the Pixel 4A 5G having a price tag at $499USD, we are left wondering what the Pixel 5 5G will set us back. Many believe the phone will be around the 600 to 700USD range.
If the leak is correct, we will have Google next generation of 5G phones in our hands before Christmas. Although if the current delays to the Pixel 4A rollout are any sign, we shouldn’t get our hopes up.
