Now, I know you saw the title and already got suspicious. 4chan? Really? But hol’ up a minute, 4chan is a mixed bag of goodies and not so goodies. One of the goodies, however, that 4chan did call correctly was Assassin’s Creed Origins. So what’s up with that? Could a new Assassin’s Creed title really be coming so soon after Valhalla?
So according to this 4chan thread the new Assassin’s Creed title is very different from what we’re used to from the franchise. For starters, the game is supposedly on a significantly smaller scale – a budget Assassin’s Creed if you will. With different siege mechanics from Valhalla, and a “completely overhauled” stealth and free running systems, anon promises some very exciting things.
Assassin’s Creed 2022 Set in Middle Ages France
But one of the biggest selling points of any Assassin’s Creed title is the historical setting it takes place in. There was nothing quite running through Florence in Assassin’s Creed 2 as Ezio even now, 11 years after the game’s original release (yes, it has been that long). This new promised title is supposedly set in late middle ages France. To be specific, it is supposedly happening during the events of The Hundred Years’ War – which, no, was not a hundred years long.
The war was quite a convoluted one with a lot of politics happening and many houses joining in on the action. But the bottom line is it was between France and England with most of Western Europe (Portugal, parts of modern day Germany, Italy, and Scotland) involved. All in all, it sounds like an interesting setting for an Assassin’s Creed title.
The new title, allegedly being developed by Ubisoft Toronto, is a bit suspicious, however. While a new and reworked Assassin’s Creed is strange, the schedule seems about right. Valhalla was released approximately two after Origins which was released a little over a year after Odyssey. But the game is supposed to be a budget title, so will it be a main installment? Additionally, this 4chan is literally the only source for the supposed leak. The poster gives no more sources or details (although he did say he will answer questions).
As always with 4chan, take the leak with a grain of salt. But in the meanwhile, we can speculate and theorycraft and get excited about it.
