Yesterday, Apple introduced its newest phones yet. And as usual with all Apple announcements, there were a host of surprises that many weren’t prepared for; The iPhones shall feature flat edges similar to old iPhone 4 and 5 designs and shall not come with a power adapter or earpods. Furthermore, Apple also replaced the standard glass front shield cover with a new ceramic shield. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect in the all-new iPhone 12.
Technical highlights
The new apple releases pack some of the biggest technical advances Apple has ever made in years. They shall all come with 5G support which shall switch seamlessly with 4G to conserve battery. The phones shall also feature a powerful A14 Bionic chip that is set to substantially increase performance and speed. Furthermore, the phones shall feature MagSafe wireless charging which shall replace the adapter.
The premium iPhone 12 pro and iPhone 12 pro max have three rear-facing cameras and LiDAR for depth mapping, AR and low-light autofocus. The 12 Pro gets a new telephoto lens with an optical zoom of 2.5X, while the Pro Max gets a 5X optical zoom, a big jump from the 2X optical zoom of the older generations.
Release date and pricing
The 6.1″ iPhone 12 shall be available for preorder on Friday, October 16th and in stores by 23rd october; at $799 for a 64GB model.
The 5.4″ iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order on Friday, November 6th and shall be available in stores a week later on November 13th. The pricing of the iPhone 12 mini starts at $699 for a 64GB version. This shall be the lowest priced of the released iPhones.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini shall sell alongside their more expensive cousins; iPhone 12 pro and iPhone 12 pro max which shall retail at $999 and $1099 respectively for 128GB of storage.
